Semifinals in singles and doubles at the ATP Challenger in Biel

What a start at the FlowBank Challenger home tournament in Biel. In the first round against the former world no. 36, Japan’s Y. Sugita. (see match summary below). Dominic already played against this unpleasant opponent in the semi-finals in Lugano in 2021 and won 6:4 in the third. It was again a match of equals at the beginning and Dominic prevailed 7:5 in the tie-break. After that the spell was broken and Dominic played confidently on to 6:1 in the second set. The young K. Aleksander from the USA was the next opponent. Dominic had to show all his repertoire in this match as well and finally won 6:4/7:6. And in the 1/4 final it came to the next meeting of Lugano 2021: the very strong Dutchman T.V. Rijthoven. Against whom he had fended off match points in 2021. This match win, which was probably one of the most important in Dominic’s still young career. Dominic played very strong from the beginning and showed his best tennis. Dominic won 6:4/7:5. Unfortunately, Dominic injured his knee in this match which made it almost impossible for him to play in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, Dominic tried. But he lost this match 3:6/4:6. It was a pity about this injury, but together with the doubles, where he and M.A. Hüsler lost in the semi-finals against the later winners in 3 sets, 7 matches in 5 days on hard court were probably just too much.

There were plenty of highlights this week and the fans waited impatiently for Dominic after each match. A big thank you to all those who supported Dominic live on site and helped to create a good atmosphere in the hall.
