Super tournament in Antwerp, Belgium. Victory against ATP No. 34

Dominic was able to play the qualification at the European Open in Antwerp, ATP 250. With 2 victories, he qualified for the main draw. After Stuttgart, in June this year, this was only the second time that Dominic survived an ATP 250 qualification.

The No. 7 of the tournament, Botic van de Zandenschlup, ATP 34, from Holland, now waited in the main draw. So almost a local. Dominic played very strong and took his chances. The Dutchman, visibly surprised by Dominic’s strength, tries everything. And with the help of the crowd, it became an interesting match. 6:2/5:4 Dominic served. 0:30 behind. But he kept his nerve and scored 4 points in a row. Game, set and victory for Stricker. What a magnificent success. His 2 most successful ATP victory (ATP No. 34) in his career so far.

In the 1/8 final, the veteran Richard Gasquet (former ATP No. 7) was waiting. He won in the first round against Stan Wawrinka. Pure suspense. Thrilling to the point of fingernail biting. 6:6 tie-break. 6:5 Dominic. But Gasquet served very solidly at that moment. Unfortunately lost 6:8. Second set exactly the same. Hammer rallies. The spectators were in for a treat. The atmosphere was boiling. Unfortunately, the Frenchman also lost this set 5:7. Despite the defeat, it was certainly the best match of the week. Dominic was proud and grateful to receive the congratulations of many players/coaches, etc.  Now comes the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where Dominic received a wildcard and can play in the main draw.
